April 21, 2010 - The SID-Washington Africa Workgroup Presents:
"Opportunities in Africa: More Than Just In The Making"
When: Wedneday, April 21, 2010, 1:00 - 2:30 pm Where: Chemonics International, Teele Auditorium, 1717 H St. NW
Africa is often in the cross-hairs of negative media stories focusing on war, civil unrest, disease and other challenges facing other parts of the developing world. At the same time, Africa on a regional and often individual country basis is experiencing unprecedented growth and opportunities in multiple sectors, in spite of the recent global economic downturn. Please join experts to discuss positive stories in Rwanda, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, and across Africa -- examining the impact of mobile banking, tourism, and agriculture initiatives on the economic and social well being of Africans. Lunch will be provided.
Moderator:
Ambassador Amina Ali, AU Mission (invited)
Panelists:
Michael Blondino, President, LEAD International
Karol Boudreaux, Senior Research Fellow, Mercatus Center
Michael Catalano, Co-Founder and Chief Network Officer, OpenRevolution
Punam Chuhan, Lead Development Economist, World Bank
