Allen Gilstrap

Allen has 22 years of global experience in the creation of technology-enabled new businesses within both Fortune 100 and venture capital funded environments. Allen has created and led businesses in the financial services, e-commerce, telecom, and loyalty/CRM space. Most recently Allen served as General Manager of American Express' Smart Solutions business based in London which delivered online commercial payment, mobile commerce, and smart card issuance solutions to 35 bank card issuing and merchant acquiring partnerships in 38 countries in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and South America. Prior to his eleven years with American Express, Allen worked for First Union National Bank where he lead the launch of VISA Cash, the first open-system electronic purse payment system in the United States introduced at the Atlanta Olympic Games. Prior to his financial services career, Allen was a partner in two start-up ventures, the first in marine biotechnology and the second in telecommunications.
Allen earned a MBA degree from Duke University and a B.S. degree in Journalism from the University of Kansas. He has served as a Director of Interactive Transaction Services, Ltd., Chairman of the Smart Card Alliance, on the Advisory Board of Proton World and on the Duke University, Fuqua School of Business Alumni Council.
